Strengthening Ties in Professional and Vocational Education: UBD Delegation Visits IPVELL

From 20 to 22 May 2025, Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah Institute of Education (SHBIE), Universiti Brunei Darussalam, visited the Institute of Professional and Vocational Education and Lifelong Learning (IPVELL) at The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK). The delegation comprised Dr Adeline Goh and Dr Siti Norhedayah Latif, who met with Dr Patrick Yun, Executive Co-Director of IPVELL, to explore strategic collaborations in research and curriculum development for professional and vocational education.

The visit featured a seminar by Dr Adeline Goh on vocational teachers’ workplace learning, which drew strong interest from EdUHK faculty and postgraduate students. The session sparked lively academic exchange on practice-based learning, professional identity formation, and cross-institutional collaboration, paving the way for joint research opportunities and knowledge transfer.

To deepen institutional links, IPVELL also arranged a coordination meeting with the Graduate School to discuss postgraduate pathways, co-supervision possibilities, and researcher mobility. The delegation toured EdUHK’s teaching facilities at the Tseung Kwan O Study Centre, where they observed learning spaces designed for applied, competency-based pedagogy and industry-engaged teaching.

Both parties identified several next steps, including:

- Co-developing curriculum modules focused on workplace learning and assessment in vocational education
- Pursuing comparative research on teacher professional development in Brunei and Hong Kong
- Exploring staff and student exchange opportunities and joint seminars/webinars

IPVELL looks forward to building a long-term partnership with SHBIE–UBD to advance impactful research, enhance curriculum innovation, and strengthen the professional and vocational education ecosystem across the region.
